" ... The fourth workshop in the The OWL: Experiences and Direction (OWLED) workshop series will again bring users, implementors and researchers together in order to measure the current state of need against the state of the art and to set an agenda for language evolutions that satisfy users. This OWLED workshop will last two days and will be held in the Washington, D.C., area, in the first week of April 2008. The workshop will concentrate on issues related to the development and W3C standardization of OWL 1.1, but other issues related to OWL are also of interest, particularly those related to the task forces set up at OWLED 2007 ..." |

Ontology Design Patterns (ODPs) are modeling "recipes" that help in the development of ontologies, in the same way that design patterns help to create better designs in object oriented programming. There is an up to date ODPs catalog in sourceforge, including ODPs applied on CCO: http://odps.sourceforge.net. |

ONTO-PERL: An API supporting the development and analysis of bio-ontologies. E. Antezana; M. Egana; B. De Baets; M. Kuiper; V. Mironov. Bioinformatics 2008; doi: 10.1093/bioinformatics/btn042 Motivation: Many biomedical ontologies use OBO or OWL as knowledge representation language. The rapid increase of such ontologies calls for adequate tools to facilitate their use. In particular, there is a pressing need to programmatically deal with such ontologies in many applications, including data integration, text mining, as well as semantic applications supporting translational research. Results: We present an Application Programming Interface (API) called ONTO-PERL. This API significantly extends the repertoire of available tools supporting the development and analysis of bioontologies. Availability: The source code as well as sample usage scripts can be found at: http://search.cpan.org/dist/ONTO-PERL/. Contact:
